Swedish

Techniques are firm but gentle pressure using long, smooth strokes, and kneading to focus on the superficial layers of the muscles to improve the circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility, and create relaxation.

Swedish/Integrated Massage

Integrated massage combines a variety of modalities to create through, balanced therapeutic bodywork session. Each massage session may include, Swedish, Neuromuscular, deep tissue, sports, Reflexology, stretching, Trigger Point, Myofascial release and Tui Na (soft tissue manipulation method to lessen a wide variety of musculoskeletal disorders), depending on your needs.

Deep Tissue

Type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep Tissue uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish but the pressure will generally be more intense and is focused on the release of chronic patterns of tension in the body from overuse and tight muscles.

Sports Massage

Special form of massage used before, during, and after athletic events. Sports massage was designed to help prepare the athlete for peak performance, drain away fatigue, relieve swelling, reduce muscle tension, promote flexibility, and prevent injuries.

Neuromuscular (NMT)

NMT is a type of massage that uses a manipulation of the soft tissue of the body, such as, muscles, tendons, and connective tissue to balance the central nervous system. This approach to pain relief helps to balance the skeleton and muscles of the body and the nervous system, including the brain, spinal chord and nerves. NMT also enhances the function of joints, muscles, and movement as it releases endorphins, the bodies own natural painkillers.

Aromatherapy

A caring, hands-on therapy of using a blend of plant oils, including essential oils for psychological and physical well-being which seeks to induce relaxation, increase energy, reduce the effects of stress and restore lost balance to mind, body, and soul.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese word which means “Universal Life Energy” A spiritual, vibrational healing practice used to promote balance throughout the human system. Reiki does not involve physical manipulation, but works with the subtle vibrational field thought to surround and penetrate the body. Reiki helps to restore balance and harmony and promotes the relaxation response.

Reflexology

Pressure point massage which works reflex areas in the hands, ears and feet that corresponds to every part of the body. Promotes relaxation and increases the body’s natural capacity to heal itself.

CranioSacral Therapy

CST A gentle, noninvasive manipulative technique. Seldom does the therapist apply pressure that exceeds five grams or the equivalent weight of a nickel. The rhythm of the craniosacral system can be detected in much the same way as the rhythms of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. But unlike those body systems, both evaluation and correction of the craniosacral system can be accomplished through palpation. CranioSacral Therapy is used for a myriad of health problems, including headaches, neck and back pain, TMJ dysfunction, chronic fatigue, motor-coordination difficulties, eye problems, endogenous depression, hyperactivity, attention deficit disorder, central nervous system disorders, and many other conditions. See link for overview: altmed.creighton.edu/cst. See Bea for CranioSacral.

Hot Stone Therapy

Hot stone massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, heated stones. The heat of the hot stones improved circulation, clams the nervous system, and relaxes tight muscles. This is a deeply soothing, relaxing from of massage.

Trigger Point

Trigger point therapy is a type of massage therapy that addresses stabbing muscle pains which can occur at various points in the body. Trigger points are tiny tight nodules that form in muscles causing referred pain. This therapy is related to myofascial release which addresses muscle tension and release, although trigger point therapy tends to be more invasive. Direct pressure is applied to the trigger point area to alleviate muscle spasms, improve circulation, and releasing trigger points. Trigger point therapy often has positive benefits for sufferers from chronic pain because the therapy aims to eliminate painful areas, rather than treating surface tension or inflammation.

Maternity Massage

While Maternity/pregnancy massage has all the benefits of "regular" massage, it has been tailored to address more specifically the issues and conditions that a pregnant woman faces. The overall goals for pregnancy massage are to help minimize stress, relieve pain, promote relaxation, and prepare the muscles for childbirth.

Chair or Table Massage

A short massage, performed on a chair or table, anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes, done through the clothing. It typically focuses on key tension areas in the back, neck, shoulders and arms.

Energy Healing

Energy Healing is a composite of many disciplines. It balances on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. It creates an opportunity for change in any aspect of someone's life. It combines Eastern philosophy and the Western mind. It is akin to Tai Chi, Yoga and Quigong in the sense that it opens the body's energy points for healing or returning to wholeness. It includes Western Science and Body Centered Psychotherapeutic understanding to deepen the client's connection to herself or himself. A deeper connection to the self is what allows the energy in the body to change.
